"Dr. Gaca was fantastic! I looked at numerous hospitals and surgeons and send my scans/records to 5 surgeons. I met or communicated via email/voice with all of them. I can't really explain it but based on the recommendations and my communication with Dr. Gaca, I decided he was my surgeon and Duke University Hospital was a great place to have my procedure. Dr Gaca performed a Bentall Procedure, replacing my aortic Valve with a biomechanical valve (Edwards Inspiris Resilia) as well as my ascending aorta from root to arch with a dacron graft. He did the surgery in 3 hours even though we expected it could take as long as 6 hours. He said he saw everything he thought he would see and it went smoothly. The staff at Duke were outstanding. The ICU staff did an awesome job getting me up and walking and ready to move to step down. I received wonderful care from everyone at Duke. I am almost 6 months out now and feeling great. Just ran a 5K road race. I cannot say enough good things about Dr Gaca and his team. Highly recommend."

"Dr Gaca is an excellent surgeon. He was able to perform a mini-thoracotomy to replace my aortic valve with a bioprosthesis. This meant no broken bones since he was able to do an incision between my ribs. He was open to any questions and I felt very comfortable entrusting my life to his skill. I was up and about in no time. My 6 month echo showed the valve was working perfectly. The Duke hospital was great. I highly recommend Dr Gaca."

"Wonderful surgeon at Duke University Hospital. Performed my surgery in under 3 hours. Thoroughly answered my questions, took my concerns and opinions into account. Dr. Gaca was recommended as someone who could handle the complications of operating on a very obese person, which is a known risk for open heart surgery."

"When I was diagnosed with Aortic Stenosis I knew it was inevitable I would need a valve replacement. I was referred to Dr. Jeffrey Gaca at Duke University hospital by my cardiologist. Dr. Gaca is an exceptional surgeon that treats his patients with great compassion. At my first appointment with him I was extremely anxious and nervous. He immediately put me at ease answering all my questions and explaining the surgery. Being a woman one of my concerns was the length of the incision and the scar that it would create. He reassured me he would be very conservative with the incision. He kept his promise! During that visit he looked at my x-rays and informed me he was certain I also had an aortic aneurysm. Needless to say the surgery was scheduled sooner than later. My family was updated throughout my surgery by the patient rep at Duke easing their anxiety. Once the surgery was over with Dr. Gaca explained everything to them in detail. While in the hospital I saw him everyday except for one. He had gone out of town, but called to check to see how I was. Just another way of showing his commitment to his patients. Dr. Jeffrey Gaca is a wonderful doctor/surgeon who I would highly, highly recommend! "

"My wife and I interviewed several surgeons prior to scheduling my procedure with Dr. Jeffrey Gaca to replace my stenotic aortic valve and repair a recently discovered aortic aneurysm. Dr. Gaca is an outstanding surgeon who continuously demonstrated a high level of commitment and compassion to all his patients. He confidently addressed my questions and concerns and more importantly, comforted my family's apprehensions after the surgery. During my hospital stay, my family and I would routinely hear stories from fellow patients of Dr. Gaca that demonstrated his warm-hearted generosity and passionate commitment to their overall well-being. Dr. Gaca is a tremendous asset to the Duke Medical Center and I consider myself very fortunate to be under his professional care and guidance."
